This weeks episode was spent with Burtney at the beautiful and unique FOUND:RE Hotel Phoenix. You may think that you need to go to LA or New York to experience a true ‘art hotel’ but you’d be wrong. This boutique hotel is located in downtown Phoenix just off the Central and Roosevelt light rail station. It holds a uniquely Arizona feel that draws its inspiration from the Roosevelt art district it resides in. We had the pleasure of spending time with catering sales manager Julie Whyman and art curator Michael Oleskow. Both have been with the hotel since its inception and took time with us to tell the story and vision of the FOUND:RE hotel. The hotels desire is for its guests to ‘find yourself’ while on property. You can be found through the delicious food and drink at MATCH, the modern and inviting rooms, and of course the beautiful art throughout the entire property. The attention to detail throughout the resort is evident and you’ll notice that even the bathrooms, conference space, and storage rooms all have names uniquely FOUND:RE. Even the room numbers are custom designed and unique to each room. Mike has done a marvelous job of accumulating and displaying art with each piece being sourced from an Arizona artist. This supports not only the beauty of the hotel but also the local art scene and economy. Plus, if you happen to find an art piece that you ‘find yourself’ in Mike will arrange a personal meeting with the artist and accommodate a purchase of the art so you can display it at home. Whether you’re looking for the next spot for a night out, staycation, or vacation in Phoenix you would be remiss if you did not ‘find yourself’ at the FOUND:RE Hotel.

The Nash: Jazz Happens Here

Improvisation is defined as creating something not previously planned or scripted. The idea of improvising is evident throughout and is one of the bedrocks of jazz music. The Nash jazz venue provides 300 shows a year in which you can experience the musical expression that all can appreciate, born out of improvising. The clubs namesake is Arizona native Lewis Nash, a celebrated jazz musician. The Nash motto is ‘Jazz Happens Here’, this was obvious from the moment we walked through the door. From the decor and stage lighting, to the artwork of famous jazz artists adorning the walls, all tell the story of jazz. Executive Director of Jazz in Az Joel Goldenthal was kind enough to share his personal story and the mission and vision of The Nash. They aim to build a community that experiences, learns, and shares the art and culture of jazz. On any given night you’ll find people of different ages, backgrounds and even political affiliations all coming together to enjoy the art form of jazz. Jazz is an experience and The Nash is evidence that you do not need to travel to New Orleans or New York to obtain this experience rather ‘Jazz Happens Here’ on Roosevelt row in Phoenix, Arizona.

Arizona Capitol Museum

We're back with season 3! Rob has the privilege of taking a personal tour of the Arizona Capitol Museum, located in located in the 1901 Arizona Territorial and State Capitol Building. Robs tour guides for the evening are Dorie Hanson the museums Chief Administrator, Stephanie Mahan the Assistant Director and Naomi Primeau Digital Media Coordinator. In this episode Stephanie and Naomi are the 'Native's' and Dorie is 'Not So' yet they all share a love and passion for our great 48th state. The museums goal is to highlight and celebrate Arizona's vibrant culture through its history. This is evident through the artifacts displayed and stories told throughout the museum. Season 2 Recap

It's crazy to think that we wrapped season 2 of our podcast already. This season took us outside Phoenix to experience just a few of the beauties and adventures that Arizona has to offer. Just a few hours up the I17 we had the pleasure of spending time in Flagstaff, Williams, Seligman, and Peach Springs. Each visit we enjoyed new experiences but best of all we were able to meet new friends and help tell their stories. On this final episode of the season Rob and I enjoy great food, drink, and conversation from the patio of Reds Bar & Grill at the beautiful Wigwam resort. While we can't possibly share all our memories from this season in the few minutes it takes to enjoy a burger and beer, we attempt to share a few of the highlights from our time up north.

We sit down for a conversation with living legend, ‘The Guardian Angel of Route 66’, ’Mayor of the Mother Road’, and (as we have now dubbed him) the 'Rockstar of Seligman' Angel Delgadillo. History will tell you that no one individual was more influential in saving Route 66 and consequently the towns along the mother road than Angel. As you’ll hear throughout the interview Angel believes in the power of the people. His story and movement is proof that ‘We The People’ can enact change even when the government has different ideas. Angel was born and raised in Seligman, Arizona over 90 years ago and he can still recall with great detail every date and influential event throughout his time. Angels influence goes beyond Route 66 and all the way to Hollywood. John Lasseter who directed the animated Disney Pixar feature ‘Cars’ used his interview with Angel to help inspire the town of Radiator Springs used in the film. People have come from all over the world to interview and meet Angel. In fact Angel has been interviewed over 1000 times and we are honored that he gave us the time and is allowing us to share his story. Enjoy!

Grand Canyon Deer Farm

Rob and Stephanie finished their weekend trip in Williams with a visit to the beautiful animals of the Grand Canyon Deer Farm. Pat George, who is the owner and operator of the Deer Farm, was kind enough to walk with and narrate as Rob and Stephanie journeyed through the park. Situated just 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon National Park the farm came to be in 1969 which makes the park 50 years young. This farm has more than just reindeers who 'snowbird' from the North Pole, in fact the first animal Rob meets is a camel named Gracie. Mayor John Moore

When you think about the wild west thoughts of men like Wyatt Earp or Zane Grey may come to mind. After this episode you can add Mayor John Moore to that list of names. Large brim cowboy hats are not the only hats John Moore wears. Currently serving as Mayor, he previously held the title of Police Chief and provided entertainment to the good people of Williams, Arizona. Rob and Stephanie got the opportunity to sit down for conversation and drink with John in the saloon of his Wild West Junction establishment. Having lived in the Route 66 town of Williams for 33 years he spent the majority of that time in public service to its citizens.
